The London Olympics 2012 medal count currently has both Team USA and China tied atop the standings. Both nations currently have a total of 42 medals, with several events still finishing up.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the United States has the lead as of this report with 21 golds to China's 20. The U.S. also has 10 silver and 11 bronze, while China has 13 silver and 9 bronze. In third place is Russia with a total of 23 medals, while the host nation, Great Britain, sits at the 4th spot with 22 total medals.
The United States continues their close fight with China at the top of the standings, with Swimming really leading the way for Team USA. Among the most recent winners in swimming for the U.S. have been Cullen Jones, Katie Ledecky, Missy Franklin, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.
It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out, as the United States is looking for guaranteed gold in events like men's and women's basketball, and beach volleyball. However, nothing is ever truly guaranteed in sports. Luckily for the host nation of Great Britain, they have stepped up their medal count and are at least in the top tier. The Olympics are scheduled to continue until August 12th when the closing ceremony will be held.
