It's nearly a given that Team USA men's basketball will win the gold medal at the London Olympics 2012 isn't it? Not of Lithuania has anything to say about it. The team has scared the golden team from the U.S. before. They hope to do it again during USA vs. Lithuania, which airs live on Saturday, August 4 at 9:30 a.m. EST on NBC Sports Network.
In the 2000 Olympics, Lithuania gave Team USA quite a scare on the basketball court. In fact, the two teams met up two times during that Olympic run, and in all, Team USA only won by a total of 11 points. One game came down to a final missed three-point shot too, which is scary.
The Lithuanian team leader Sarunas Jasikevicius is still with the team, and he's the one who ended up causing all the trouble for the U.S. Of course, the team only has two NBA players on its roster in Linas Kleiza and rookie Jonas Valanciunas. Considering how many NBA players Team USA has, it probably will not end up being a close contest. Even so, the team cannot afford to take it for granted.
Kevin Love said, "I think we're really focusing on ourselves and each game. But, yeah, we're paying attention [to the competition]. Every chance we get, we're watching the other games in the other pool. We just want to continue to stay focused on our dream, which is our 12 being up on top of that podium with gold. But we know that it's going to be game by game. This could be a tough route."
What do you think? Are you expecting yet another U.S. gold from the men's basketball team? Will you tune in on Saturday morning to watch them play Lithuania? Do you remember the scares from the 2000 Olympics?
