Chicago Cubs trade rumors surrounded Matt Garza for what seemed like months and this is turning into a time where the franchise has quickly wished they had simply pulled the trigger. Rather than simply pull off a Garza trade, the team waited around, trying its hardest to get more out of the teams trying to acquire him. That has been revealed as a big mistake at this point.
According to ESPN, Garza has now been shut down indefinitely, warranting at least a stint on the 15-day disabled list to figure out what might be wrong. His last start came on July 21 against St. Louis Cardinals and it led to stiffness in his right elbow. An MRI got performed and it revealed that he had some irritation at the tip of a bone.
After posting a 5-7 record with a 3.91 ERA this year, it really looked like Garza would be pitching for a new team before the MLB trade deadline. The Cubs couldn't find an offer that they liked though and have been stuck with yet another injured starting pitcher. The early prognosis does not seem very good, so this is just about the worst case scenario for the struggling franchise.
