Miami Marlins trade rumors were a daily occurrence leading up to the MLB trade deadline and the team may continue that trend into the baseball offseason. The oddest news of all, though, is the new claim that none of the Miami trades were made due to payroll considerations.
According to the Palm Beach Post, team president David Samson claims that, "Not one trade that was done was payroll-motivated. It was chemistry-motivated, it was winning motivated." That's right; Samson wants everyone to believe that the team trading away Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez was because they didn't fit into the chemistry of the team.
Maybe he would have an easier time selling that line if it just revolved around Hanley Ramirez, but when he also includes Gaby Sanchez in that sentiment, it really seems like something is missing from the equation. Are fans really supposed to believe that all six players who got traded away where creating problems on the team with their "chemistry?"
After starting out the season with a $101.6 million payroll, a lot was expected from the Marlins this year. To call it a failure of a season would be an understatement, especially with the new stadium opening up. Fans shouldn't get too comfortable with the current roster though, because more trades could come as the team tries to get competitive again during the upcoming offseason.
