The Olympic schedule for the men's basketball semifinals tips off at noon on August 10 and features four of the best teams in the world fighting for the three medals. One of these teams will go home empty-handed on August 12 while two of them fight for the biggest prize of all, the Olympic Gold Medal.
Here is the schedule for the two semifinal games in the 2012 Summer Olympics men's basketball competition.
12:00 p.m. ET - Spain vs. Russia: Heading into the Olympic basketball 2012 competition, everyone believed Spain would end up in the gold medal game against Team USA. However, two losses in group play almost cost Spain that chance. Now, despite their two losses, Spain can still end up where everyone expected them when competition started. They just have to get past Russia first.
That is easier said than done since Russia is one of the teams who knocked off Spain in the group play. Spain relies on NBA talent like Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka to lead their offense. However, Russia is just as talented. While they don't have the NBA weapons, outside of Andrei Kirilenko, they have played strong and have a great chance to pull off the win here and move on to the final round.
4:00 p.m. ET - Team USA vs. Argentina: Team USA has rolled over all their competition so far. Teams have pushed and pressured the U.S. but always rebounded at the end to make the wins look bigger than they really were. Now, they play an Argentina team they already beat. Manu Ginobili leads Argentina into the game looking for the upset, but odds are that Team USA plays for another Gold Medal with their All-Star lineup.
The winners of these games on the Olympic schedule play on Sunday, August 12, in the medal games.
