The MLB season has just 45-50 games remaining for each team and the races in both the American and National Leagues are getting tighter by the day as no team in baseball has over a six game lead in the race for the post-season.
The NL has the top two teams in baseball as the Washington Nationals (72-44) and Cincinnati Reds (69-46) have the top winning percentage in the game. The Nationals are the hottest team in baseball having won nine of their last ten and now own a 5.5 games lead in the NL East over Atlanta. The Reds have won three straight and have taken a five game lead over Pittsburgh in the NL Central, but both the Braves and Pirates are holding down the two wild card spots in the Nationals League. The race out west is getting interesting as the LA Dodgers (63-53) and San Francisco Giants (63-53) are tied at the top, but Arizona (58-57) is making a late charge and trail the two leaders by just 4.5 games.
The NY Yankees (68-47) are the top team in the American League and hold a five game lead over the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays (63-52), but Baltimore is also in the race and the Orioles (62-53), along with the Rays are holding down the wild card spots in the AL. Chicago (62-52) and Detroit (61-55) have battled all year in the AL Central and it now will come down between these two teams for the division crown. The AL West still has the Texas Rangers (67-47) on top as they have now opened up a six game advantage over Oakland and eight games over the LA Angels.
With so many MLB teams still in the hunt for the post-season, fans will have plenty of reasons to visit the ballpark and stay excited about baseball through the next few weeks and that will only help with ratings as football begins shortly and will take over the media coverage around the country.
