Bobby Valentine could get fired by the Boston Red Sox very soon. Valentine took over as the manager of the team when Terry Francona was given his walking papers, but the chemistry never emerged from the manager and his new players.
Now, according to ESPN, many of the players got together to have a meeting with the owner of the team. The report starts that 17 players got together with owner John Henry and team president Larry Lucchino to talk about the state of the team. The meeting served as a place for the players to air their frustrations, but even that hasn't helped to turn the team around.
It really looks like Valentine has no future with the team and that they are simply trying to limp through the remainder of the regular season before firing him. The Red Sox had stumbled to a record of 57-59 this year, putting the team 11 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East. For a team that had hopes of winning the division, that simply isn't going to cut it.
The Red Sox have a lot of moves that need to get made this offseason, but the most important may be finding a manager that the players can respect and play for. Hiring Valentine was a mistake and one that the team has got to try to distance itself from as soon as possible. When star players like Adrian Gonzalez and Jon Lester continue to get frustrated with management, then something has clearly gone awry.
What do you think about the Bobby Valentine situation with the Boston Red Sox? Do you think that Valentine should get fired by Boston right now?
