NBA trade rumors surrounding the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves have been swirling, but now those reports may have been shot down. FOX Sports threw a lot of water on those rumors, stating that nobody should "put any stock" in them.
Writer Sam Amico notes that the rumor linking the Timberwolves and Cavaliers involved the Wolves sending forward Derrick Williams and guard Luke Ridnour to the Cavs for center Anderson Varejao. A team executive from Minnesota claims that "no such conversations have taken place."
That definitely should put an end to those rumors, even if they seem like something that would help out both teams. The Timberwolves have not figured out how to use the skills that Williams possesses and they could certainly use someone with the defensive toughness that Varejao has. For the Cavs, acquiring another elite player from the 2011 NBA Draft couldn't hurt that roster.
It really seems like all three of these players could be playing in new cities at the beginning of the 2012-13 NBA season, so maybe it would just make sense for the two teams to work out a deal. If they weren't able to come to terms, there is still no reason to expect that Minnesota won't continue to shop Williams in other rumors around the league.
What do you think of these NBA trade rumors? Should the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers try to work out a deal with these players? Has Derrick Williams become a huge bust from the NBA Draft?
