The LA Dodgers are one of the best stories in the MLB this season as the team has fought through ownership issues and are now tied for the lead in the NL West, but recent injury concerns could have the team looking to add another bat before the August 31 waiver deadline.
The latest rumor from Bleacher Report suggests the LA Dodgers look into adding Minnesota Twins utility man Justin Morneau in a deal that would give the team some depth at first base and another power bat in their lineup.
Baseball expert Ken Rosenthal reported the Twins were looking for a starting pitcher last month and nothing has changed. The LA Dodgers have some good young arms they could use in a deal and Minnesota would get the 31-year-old's big contract off the books, something a small market team needs to do when their not competitive.
Morneau is hitting .275 on the year with 16 homers and 58 RBI, but that is also in a lineup that has struggled to produce runs and his stats could increase if surrounded by better talent.
The MLB trade deadline has passed, but teams can still make deals and if a player is acquired before August 31, that player is eligible for post-season play. Look for a few teams to make deals over the next two weeks as they continue to pursue a spot in this year's post-season.
