The newest Orlando Magic rumors have the team deciding on a backup point guard for Jameer Nelson. The team went ahead and re-signed free agent Ishmael Smith, giving the team some more depth off the bench.
During his second season in the NBA, Smith played in 20 games for the Magic, averaging 8.6 minutes per game. He saw more action down the stretch and apparently the Magic liked what they saw in him. Now the Wake Forest product will have the chance to put up even better numbers in the 2012-13 NBA season.
Though he has only been around two seasons, Smith has already played for four NBA teams. He got his start with the Houston Rockets before spending time with the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors. Smith came to the Magic midway through last season, giving the team some insurance coming off the bench.
The offseason has seen a lot of changes made to the Orlando roster, including the Dwight Howard trade, Ryan Anderson trade and minor free agents leaving town. The depth chart now seems to have Gustavo Ayon at center, Glen Davis at power forward, Hedo Turkoglu at small forward, Arron Afflalo at shooting guard and Nelson as the starting point guard. Smith gives the team a second option off the bench, likely revealing e will get a lot of minutes this year.
What do you think about these Orlando Magic rumors? Can Ish Smith make a good impact for the team in the 2012-13 NBA season?
