Former Miami Dolphins footballer, Chad Johnson—aka Ochocinco—is learning that spouse abuse doesn't pay. Not only did he lose his job with the Dolphins football team, now he's gotten fired from an important endorsement deal.
Just a little over a month ago, Zico coconut water signed the football star to front their product. However, in light of all the negative publicity Chad's received after putting wife Evelyn Lozada in the hospital, the company's entertained second thoughts. Consequently, they've fired Ocohocinco.
A Zico representative had this to say about the unfortunate canning: "The values we espouse, through our employees, our customers, and our brand, are central to our mission." Then he went on to explain the reason behind Chad Johnson's firing, "We have taken this proactive step to demonstrate just how important those values are."
It is likely a good move for the company, which could have suffered much had they decided to keep Johnson's services. However, it's another blow for Ochocinco. He's quickly watching his revenue stream completely dry up.
Assuming of course that all the allegations against the footballer are true, then let that be another message to the wife beaters of America. Women are not your personal property to love or destroy at your own whim. They are human beings that deserve the same respect and dignity that's naturally given to any man.
