In a marriage plagued by problems, there is now added pressure between L.A. Lakers star Kobe Bryant, and his wife Vanessa Bryant, who recently told New York Magazine that she didn't want to be married to Kobe unless he could bring home championship rings, saying "I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can't win championships."
The statement comes on the heels of a divorce filing that could have stemmed from an alleged incident of infidelity back in 2007, but the couple apparently were trying to work it out, and seen in public as recently as August 4th when they watched the Olympic Swimming competition with daughter Gianna. The couple was photographed laughing and having a good time on that occasion.
Twitter has seen a flurry of messages about the statement Vanessa made, including some that insinuated that she was a "gold-digger" or had done nothing of merit on her own.
"Vanessa Bryant said she wouldn't marry a man who didn't win titles. This from a woman whose biggest moment was dancing in an Eastsidaz video"
"I ain't saying she a gold digger, but she ain't messing with no Charlotte Bobcats."
The couple are apparently trying to work things out before the divorce goes through, but this statement may make it more difficult. However Kobe himself was photographed shirtless in a night club talking to two women in July, an incident in which Vanessa was quoted as being "furious" and "embarrassed" about. Time will tell if Kobe can win enough championships to keep the woman he loves. He has three now, which is an accomplishment, but Michael Jordan only has six and the most ever won was 11, by Bill Russell with the Celtics.
