After five fights and five victories it was no surprise to anyone that when Ronda Rousey stepped in the ring with Canadian Sarah Kaufman, she walked out the victor. It might have surprised some just how quickly it was over, with Kaufman tapping out in the first round after just 54 seconds, with the bantamweight champion walking away with her sixth win in as many fights.
The question that everyone is asking now is who the 25-year-old will fight next. After all, the list of possible contenders is very short. At least one reporter, Nathan McCarther with the LA Times, thinks Rousey should be fighting on the UFC stage. The California native is a certainly a star.
However, Ronda Rousey has her own ideas on who she should be up against next time. After the fight with Kaufman Rousey called out Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos, saying that she needed to "send out a challenge to Ms. Cyborg," adding to the camera, "people want to see you have the first fair fight of your life. I'm the champ now. The champ doesn't go to you, you go to the champ. Come down to 135 and let's settle this."
Santos is out of the cage until 2013 unfortunately, following a fight with Hiroko Yamanaka in December of last year in which Cyborg tested positive for steroids. She received a 12-month suspension. However, Rousey could also go up against Gina Carano in the future. Carano's most recent appearance was in 2009 when she lost to Rousey.
When Rousey was asked who she'd rather fight, given the two choices she chose Santos, saying, "I would want to beat up Cris Cyborg the most. I would want just want a win over Gina. She's a cool chick. I have so much respect for her."
