The difference between an above average NFL kicker and the rest is about 2-3 points per game and for owners looking to win a league's championship, every point matters. Here is a look at the top fantasy football kickers this week and how they can help an owner throughout the season.
David Akers is one of the most consistent kickers in football as he has led in scoring in three of the last four years. Playing for the San Francisco 49ers will give the veteran plenty of opportunities this season and with Green Bay on the schedule this weekend, the offense should move the ball enough to give Akers some field goal attempts and an extra point or two.
Jason Hanson is another veteran kicker that scores over 100 points regularly. This week Detroit faces the St Louis Rams and there is no reason to believe the Lions won't score often and that will lead to several opportunities for Hanson.
One of the younger kickers in the league to keep an eye on is Alex Henry of Philadelphia. The Eagles struggled early last season, but if the second half of last year carries over, Henry could lead the league in scoring during the 2012-13 NFL season.
