The 2012 NFL season started with a surprise as the Dallas Cowboys went on the road and beat last year's Super Bowl Champion NY Giants, but that isn't the only upset that could happen this weekend as several teams are prime for the picking.
San Francisco was a big surprise last season under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers won the NFC West and made a very positive showing in the playoffs, and though they open on the road against Green Bay, last time the Packers took the field for real they made unusual mistakes and had turnover problems, both of which could lead to the 49ers opening the season with an upset win.
Jacksonville opens on the road this week against Minnesota, and though the Jaguars aren't favored, this team matches up well against the Vikings. The Jags could get a break and not face Adrian Peterson, and that would only help their cause on Sunday. While both these teams are expected to struggle this season, watch out for the Jags who could have more talent on the field for one of the few times in the 2012 season.
Vincent Frank of Bleacher Report has the Chicago Bears on alert this week against rookie quarterback Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. On paper this game should favor the Bears, but Chicago has had it share of off-field problems, and all those distractions this off-season could lead to an upset.
It's not often there isn't an upset on any given NFL Sunday, but with this being just the first game of the year, teams need to be wary of the underdogs who have nothing to lose and plenty of confidence at this time of the year.
