The old adage that NFL defense that face young quarterbacks are a must in fantasy football have changed with the play of these young signal callers over the last couple of seasons, but the hard learning curve and playing against the better defenses in the league are still worth looking at for owners and could make a big difference in points scored in a given week.
Here are the top defensive options for week 3 with most of these rankings based on matchups and injuries.
The San Francisco 49ers could have the top defense in football and have had two terrific games against Green Bay and Detroit. This week they face the worst offense in the NFC North in Minnesota and that could spell trouble for the Vikings.
Philadelphia has won both games this year behind a solid defense and this week the Eagles face a surprising Arizona Cardinals squad that is 2-0, but the Cards have struggled to run the ball and Philly will pressure the quarterback, making them a must start this weekend.
Buffalo made several changes through free agency and entered the 2012 NFL season as a dark-horse. The Bills struggled in week 1, but last week they looked like the defense most experts predicted they would become and they face a rookie quarterback and a Cleveland offense that has struggled to put points on the board for three years.
