The 2012 MLB Playoffs schedule is ready to begin Friday night (October 5) in Atlanta. The two wild card games take place on Friday, with the first getting played in Atlanta and the second taking place in Texas. The TV schedule is also ready for the games, with TBS set to broadcast the first round.
This is the first time that Major League Baseball has had two wild cards in each league during the same postseason and now they must play against each other to decide which teams advance to the ALDS and NLDS. It's an interesting way to do it and if the excitement that existed down the stretch continues, Friday should be a very exciting day for baseball.
The first game takes place in the National League, with the Atlanta Braves hosting the St. Louis Cardinals at 5:07 p.m. ET. The Braves finished with a better record and get to host the opening game of the 2012 NL Playoffs. The winner of this game advances to face the No. 1 seeded NL team in the NLDS; which is the Washington Nationals this year.
Over in the American League, the Texas Rangers host the Baltimore Orioles at 8:37 p.m. ET. Texas and Baltimore both had a strong shot at winning their respective divisions, but ended up settling into the wild card slots on the final day of the regular season. Now the two teams will battle it out for the chance to play the No. 1 seeded New York Yankees in the 2012 ALDS.
Are you excited that the 2012 MLB Playoffs schedule is ready to start Friday night? Do you think that the St. Louis Cardinals or Texas Rangers could make it back to another World Series?
