Teams that win championships are usually stacked with All-Star talent but they also need players with versatility. For that reason should Jeremy Lin press the Houston Rockets to go after Andre Iguodala?
Rockets NBA free agency agenda depends on how Lin plays
Nobody is sure yet what the Houston Rockets have built so far down in Texas. Their team is among the youngest in the league and though not at a championship level has some interesting talents on the roster. Every one knows about Linsanity and how he will impact the team at point guard. Many NBA experts have tried to figure out how good the fan favorite sensation will turn out after his exit from the New York Knicks. Some even used statistic comparison to other players from league history. Early signs brought up names like Tim Hardaway and Mark Jackson, All-Stars when they played. Provided Lin heals from his knee injury he has enough talent to become at worst a moderately good player. Stats won't tell the future though. Success in Houston will depend on how he grows and if he can stay healthy. Also, it rests with the Rockets franchise to keep adding upgrades to their roster.
Denver Nuggets will decide on Iguodala after 2013 season
Andre Iguodala isn't the first player people will think of when the free agent market opens next year. That's a real shame too. Like most sports everyone is so focused on scoring points and creating offense. Players who do the dirty work never get the credit. That is the kind of player the Denver Nuggets needed when they traded for Iguodala in the offseason. Though he scores just 15 points per game, the 28-year-old shooting guard is a complete player in basketball. He does everything well from rebounds, to assists. His biggest asset is on defense where he regularly matches up with the best player on the other team. Throw in a dynamite skill in transition and Denver got one of the most underrated players in the league. How he plays this coming season will also decide his future contract as his expires next June. If the Nuggets choose to reform the roster again, a team like Houston could use a player of that mold. Aside from his defense, Iguodala has that rare ability to make his teammates better. Together with a player like Lin, they can create havoc with other teams.
Andre Iguodala gets a bad rep for not scoring enough but his talents are essential to teams. The Denver Nuggets will try that out but it rests with Jeremy Lin and the Houston Rockets to see if he can add to their winning formula.
