The Lakers are officially a mess and Dwight Howard might want out.
After being traded to the Lakers from the Orlando Magic, Howard has not enjoyed much individual or team success. The Lakers are a putrid 17-24 and Howard is averaging just 17.1 points per game. He averaged around 20 when he was with the Magic. He is also seeing considerably less shot attempts on the Lakers as Kobe Bryant, who leads to the league in attempts, takes up a majority of the shots.

The Brooklyn Nets are looking to make a play for Howard, seeing as how the Lakers may consider trading him if he doesn't sign a long-term extension. The Nets, according to a source, want to trade for Howard in a three-team trade that would involve them sending Brook Lopez to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kevin Love being shipped to the Lakers, and Howard going to the Brooklyn Nets. There would be other pieces involved in order to match salaries and more, but those three would be the main components of the trade.
The Nets are having a better season than the Lakers, but many around the league still don't consider them serious contenders and replacing Lopez with Howard will give them a serious shot at making a run in the East. The Wolves would receive some good talent in return for Love, who is thinking about leaving the Wolves if they don't make the playoffs. Love would be a great fit in LA as he can stretch out the floor with his three-point shot and provide great rebounding as well.
