New LA Lakers trade rumors suggest a Dwight Howard trade might not be in the cards after all. According to a new report, Howard plans on remaining with in Los Angeles for the rest of the regular season.
Howard is a free agent at the end of the current season, but it doesn't seem like he is letting that impending free agency distract him. He stated that, "I plan on being here for the remainder of the season. My focus and team's focus is to do what we can do to get to the playoffs."

He is definitely saying the right things, but the results on the court aren't exactly stellar. As the Lakers continue to struggle, it's hard for fans not to envision trade scenarios where Howard is sent to a new team. He would still make the most money by re-signing with the Lakers at the end of the regular season.
When it comes to a contract extension, Howard states that, "We're not discussing that. Right now, our goal is to win. All I want to do is win. I have to put all my energy and sacrifice whatever I have to do, humble myself and go out there and play." If he did sign with the Lakers at the end of the season, Howard could make $117.9 million over the next five years. He would have to take a pay cut in free agency.
So while the LA Lakers trade rumors continue to circle the team, it appears that a Dwight Howard trade is definitely not close to taking place. He is acting content with the situation for now, so maybe the Lakers are just going to ride this one out.
Do you feel the Lakers just need to cut ties with Howard? Is Los Angeles too big of a stage for him?

It's time to turn the team over to Jeanne Buss. Jim "Baby" Buss has done his best to do to the Lakers, what Frank McCourt did to the Dodgers, and he needs to go. So does Mitch "cry in his" Kupchak need to go.
Baby Buss and Mitch Upchak have let key role players defect to the Clippers, and now those former Lakers are coming off the bench and making the Clippers the new LA team to watch!
With Jeanne Buss leading the organization and Phil coaching and handling the general manager duties, things will turn around quickly.
And once Phil does his Zen thing on players like Dwight, Meeks, Duhon, Ebanks, Jamison, Clark and Sacre; they will be playing like Kobe [who once underwent the Zen like treatment].
If changes are not made from the top on down, and made real soon, we will be looking at a record much like the Clippers of past seasons.
As far as Baby Buss saying that Phil's teams lacked excitement, all I can say is a boring "W" is still a "W!" So, let's return the man who knows how to get the most out of his players, and what good defense is. The clock is ticking, and we are slowly watching this year become a huge disappointment, all because Baby Buss wanted to get back at Phil and his sister [by jumping the gun and hiring D'Antoni] when he made that power play statement by not hiring Phil when he had the chance. We all know that not hiring Phil was PERSONAL, and not because Phil asked for two days to give his decision.
Jim "Baby" Buss is immature; no nothing when it comes to professional sports teams, and it is showing in the way he fired Mike Brown; shunned Phil Jackson; and hired D'Antoni. I am calling on Dr. Buss to intervene in this ungoing family squabble [because it's breaking up the team], and set things straight before it's too late.
If this doesn't happen soon, maybe Magic Johnson and his friends and partners at the Guggenheim Partners, LLC should offer to buy out the Lakers and turn it around like the Dodgers?
