Rajon Rondo's injury is a torn ACL and the Boston Celtics have lost him for the season. The starting point guard for the 2013 Eastern Conference All-Star team has gone down at an injury that often takes 8-12 months to recover from. The potential is there that he even misses part of next season trying to recover.
Rondo averaged 13.7 points, 11.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Celtics this season. He had a shot to make the All NBA First Team this year, but that might not happen now that his regular season has come to a premature conclusion.
This is a death blow for the Celtics, especially as the team had been struggling to try to hold on to the eighth seed in the East. The team had already lost six games in a row coming into Sunday (Jan. 27), but that losing streak could get even worse without the best facilitator on the roster.
This is going to cause a lot of trade rumors to pop up in Boston, especially when it comes to acquiring a point guard. There are certainly a number of players that the team could acquire, but it might take giving up an asset like Paul Pierce to finally start rebuilding this roster.
Do you think that Danny Ainge should use this Rajon Rondo injury as a chance to rebuild the team right now? Should the Boston Celtics look to trade away veteran players like Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in order to rebuild the franchise for the future?

He has 4 guards and Pierce as a point forward.
What they will do is get a reasonable big man, with a trade--because they now have a roster spot.
Question is, how?
They're not going to give up Sullinger, Bradley, Pierce, or KG.
Maybe Bass, a future second round pick, and cash--for a journeyman big guy.
Wilcox is back--so Bass is more expendable.
Otherwise, they're stuck.
