The NBA mock draft 2013 projections reveal that Maryland big man Alex Len should be among this year's lottery picks. Right now he's ranked within the top ten, but which teams in the NBA will end up going after him, or in that case, need his services the most?
According to Bleacher Report's mock draft analysis, Len could possibly be selected at #7 by the New Orleans Hornets (or Pelicans next season). Len would join a lineup that already boasts big man Anthony Davis, the #1 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. While Davis may not win the Rookie of the Year for 2012-13, he's shown plenty of promise and potential for his future in New Orleans. Alex Len or Cody Zeller may be among the picks that the Pelicans look to add to their squad, as they'd have a lot of size in the frontcourt to contend with. Another choice that New Orleans may opt for is Georgetown's Otto Porter, if they are in a position to get him.
While the BR article indicates Len should go seventh to the Pelicans, NBADraft.net has a different perspective. The site lists Len as their #8 pick on the mock draft, getting selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves. That would add Len to a lineup already chock full of talent such as big man Kevin Love and point guard Ricky Rubio. The questionable aspect of the Twolves drafting Len would be the fact they currently have center Nikola Pekovic who has shown plenty of potential as a future star, or at least helpful big man for their roster.
For now, Len will continue to play the college game before heading for the pros. Maryland plays Virginia on Sunday evening as the teams continue to battle for position in the ACC and for the upcoming NCAA tournament. They'll continue to look towards Len's contributions as he nearly averages a double-double and helps the Terrapins continue to dominate the boards.
The good news for Len is there are plenty of teams willing to gamble for the chance at the NBA's next decent center.
